Clark School Students Are Spreading Cheer Through Community Service

December 28, 2024

At Clark School, a preschool through grade 12 independent school in Rowley, MA, giving back is more than just a tradition—it’s an integral part of our community. Students from middle to high school dedicate 10-25 hours of community service annually, embodying the values of compassion, teamwork, and leadership. This holiday season, all of our students are embracing the spirit of giving with five meaningful community service initiatives designed to make a positive impact. Here's a look at how Clark students are stepping up to brighten the season for others:

1. Warming Hearts with the Coat Drive

The Clark School Student Council is leading the charge in the Coats for Kids & Families drive, collecting nearly 200 coats to date! This incredible effort ensures that families in need stay warm during the harsh winter months. The drive also doubles as a friendly competition among local schools, with prizes benefiting student programs. Partnering with Anton’s Cleaners of Newburyport, Clark School is making a tangible difference, one coat at a time. The council extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to this cause—your generosity warms more than just bodies; it warms hearts too!

2. Turning Cans into Opportunities

Through their innovative can drive, the Clark Student Council is transforming recycling into resources for the school. Community members are encouraged to drop off returnable cans and bottles, which are then redeemed for cash at local centers. These funds bolster student activities and support future fundraisers. It’s a win-win: reducing waste while enhancing school life!

3. Assembling Essential Bags for Families in Need

High School students gathered to assemble “essentials bags” for the NFI Family Resource Center in Lowell. These bags, filled with items like razors, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, and new socks, provide much-needed support to families facing challenges. Every Clark student was able to contribute by donating items. This project exemplifies the power of teamwork and reminds us all of the importance of giving to those in need during the holidays.

4. Keeping Our Community Beautiful

Community service starts at home, and Clark students are committed to making their school and local community and parks cleaner space. The campus clean-up initiative engages students in beautifying the grounds, fostering pride in their environment. This hands-on effort is a wonderful example of how small acts of care can create a welcoming and inspiring community for all.

5. Sharing Stories and Smiles

High school students are bringing holiday cheer to our youngest learners by reading to preschool through 4th-grade students. This cherished tradition creates lasting memories for both readers and listeners, nurturing a love for storytelling and connection. It’s a simple yet profound way to build bonds across age groups and foster the joy of learning.

At Clark School, community service is about more than fulfilling a requirement—it’s about making the world a little brighter, one act of kindness at a time. This holiday season, we’re inspired by the creativity, dedication, and heart our students bring to their efforts. To all parents, families, and community members, thank you for your support in empowering our students to make a difference.

Wishing you a joyous and giving holiday season!
