Erik Sorensen, the owner of Newbury Golf and Ice Cream Center, envisioned opening a state-of-the-art golf practice facility on the North Shore of Boston. Growing up on the North Shore and having worked at a golf course since he was a child, he saw the opportunity in this area. As other opportunities in the golf world opened, he put this dream on the back burner for almost 20 years. During those years Erik built a career as a club professional working at four top 100 courses, including Myopia Hunt Club, Augusta National Golf Club, Mountain Lake, Isleworth, and Dorset Field Club.
During these years Erik has been recognized by many golf organizations as being a top instructor. Just recently Erik was named among the Top 50 kids Teacher by US Kids Golf. U.S. Kids Golf has recognized golf's best coaches with the Top 50 Kids Coach Award. Applicants complete an online survey and winners are chosen based on a variety of factors that grade their contribution to youth golf. Considerations include, but are not limited to, experience, innovation, creativity, communication, parental engagement, organization, devotion, and growing the game. Award recipients include coaches who work at public, private, resort, and municipal courses.
Erik's passion has always been teaching and providing instruction for all levels of players. Newbury Golf Center will focus on an extensive teaching program for all levels and ages of players. The focus and goal will be to become one of the top teaching facilities in New England.
