Guess what? You live within minutes of the steepest, fastest snow tubing hill in New England, and this season is looking better than ever thanks to additional snowmaking guns and other improvements. We caught up with Dayle Bell at New England Sports Park in Amesbury for all the details - plus some helpful do's and don'ts on taking your kids (ages 4+) up the big hill.

Newburyport Macaroni Kid: What's new at New England Sports Park this year?

Dayle Bell: A lot, actually. We've got a redesigned website, which offers online ticket reservations.  We’re planning themed events; Disney, cosmic, first responder, etc. We’ve also purchased additional snowmaking guns for hopefully more tubing lanes and a full season of snow tubing.

MK: When do you expect to open? What's a typical season?

Dayle: It's all weather-dependent. Our goal is to open for the weekend of December 17! We're typically open from mid-December through mid-March.

MK: What are your "do's" and "don'ts" for parents snow tubing with young children (ages 4 and up)?

Dayle: There are eight key things to keep in mind.
  1. Do plan ahead. Check the website for conditions and ticket availability before heading out.
  2. Do plan to have a ticketed adult accompany children under the age of 7 on the tubing hill.
  3. Do bring a helmet for children under 7, or plan to rent one. Bike helmets work just fine.
  4. Do dress appropriately for the weather. Layers are great.
  5. Do explain the rules of the hill to your child and make sure they understand.
  6. Don't force your child to go down the hill. If for some reason you get to the top and your child will not go down, just ask for one of our staff members to escort you and your child back down the hill.
  7. Do ask for assistance, if needed. We're here to help ensure you have the best possible experience on the mountain.
  8. Do plan to have fun!
MK: How do you measure success?

Dayle: We are in the "fun" business. In every interaction with our guests, internal and external, we strive to create an environment that is entertaining, exciting and helpful - one that will keep them coming back for more. Each member of our team is vital to the efficiency and success of our company. Our ongoing goal is to extend world-class service in a fun, helpful and courteous manner so that our guests return year after year.  Our success depends on our ability to provide high quality service and exceed our guests’ expectations. And our future depends on maintaining these standards.

Enjoy the perfect family outing for winter weekends and vacation weeks! Here's what you need to know before you go.

Take a "magic carpet ride" up our conveyor-belt lift to the top of the hill. Hop on your tube, then down you go. Kids between 4 and 6 years old get their own tube but must ride up the conveyor belt lift with an adult. The adult holds on to the handle of the child’s tube as they go down the hill together. (Kids ages 4-6 must wear a helmet - bring your own or rent one of ours for a $5 fee and $30 refundable deposit.)

Our regular snow tubing hours are Thursday and Friday, 3-8 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 10 AM-8 PM. To avoid overcrowding, tickets are sold for one of three 3-hour time blocks:
- First block 10 AM-2 PM
- Second block  2 PM-5 PM
- Third block 5 PM-8 PM

Once you've enjoyed the thrill of the hill, come warm up inside at the Crossbar Pub, serving a full pub menu of appetizers, salads, burgers, and pizza.

Ask about our group rates and birthday party package. Come find out why visitors from all over Massachusetts come back year after year!
